Mare and Foal Care
Following foaling, mares and foals continue to receive attentive care in a quiet environment designed to support their health, development and wellbeing.
During the early days after birth we monitor:
• The foal’s ability to stand and nurse
• General health and behaviour
• Mare recovery and wellbeing
• Passage of the placenta
This early observation period helps ensure both mare and foal are progressing well before returning to normal paddock routines.

Most mares arrive four to six weeks before their expected foaling date so they have time to settle into the environment before foaling.
How are mares monitored during foaling season?
Mares close to foaling are monitored closely for physical and behavioural signs that foaling may be approaching, allowing us to respond quickly when labour begins.
What happens after the foal is born?
Both mare and foal are monitored to ensure the foal stands, nurses successfully and shows normal behaviour, while the mare is observed to ensure she recovers well and passes the placenta.
Do you provide early foal handling?
Yes. Foals are introduced to gentle handling to support their early education and future management.
Can mares stay on after foaling?
Yes. Short and Long-term mare and foal agistment can be arranged to allow both to settle and recover following foaling.
Is veterinary support available if required?
Yes. If veterinary assistance is required, we work with experienced local veterinarians within the Hunter Valley region.
